The future of Texas Baptists
by Charles Dodson
Pastor, Woods Baptist Church, Tyler second vice president, 1994-’95

What a wonderful opportunity we have before us as Texas Baptists to live out the gospel with conviction and compassion into the next millennium!

What do I see happening among Texas Baptists over the next few years?

I see us upholding time-honored Baptist distinctives even as we engage in time-sensitive contemporary mission.

I see us finding fresh ways to network across ethnic lines and geographic expanse for greater effectiveness in ministering to identifiable human need.

I see us focusing more on what unites us and less on what divides us.

I see us rethinking our budget priorities and putting more of our resources into this massive mission field we call Texas.

I see us expanding theological education, offering training for ministry to both volunteers and vocationals.

I see us cooperating together to do what Baptists at their best do best—missions, evangelism, education, and ministry to human needs.

Baptist have a bright future in Texas! God being my Helper, I hope to participate actively in that future. As we move forward together, I pray we will exalt Christ as much by how we live as by what we say.
